Shelf Life and Storage of Coil Coatings in Hot Climates
Key facts
| System | Shelf life | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| PG-S1 | 12 months | Protect from freezing |
| PG-S2 | At least 6 months | Sealed original containers, indoors |
| PG-C | 24 months | Sealed original containers, indoors |
Heat shortens storage life
High temperatures speed up chemical changes in coatings. Two-component systems can thicken, waterborne products can separate, and containers left in the sun can build pressure. A warehouse roof in the Gulf summer is far hotter than the outside air.
How to store
- Indoors, shaded and ventilated, off hot concrete floors.
- In sealed original containers, with components of two-component systems kept together.
- First in, first out — use the oldest batch first.
- Solvent-based products away from ignition sources, as their SDS requires.
Check before use
Look for skin, lumps, separation that does not remix, or gelling. If in doubt, ask for guidance with the batch number before using it.
What this means for your project
Order to match your application schedule rather than holding long stocks.
