Coil Coating Selector
Answer the questions to see a recommendation
- · Estimated ISO 9223 category for the site
- · Recommended PG system and an alternative
- · Dip, spray or full-unit application
- · Three reasons behind the choice
How this works
Site category
The selector first estimates an ISO 9223 category from distance to the sea: under 500 m starts at C5, 0.5–5 km at C4 and over 5 km at C3. Industrial exposure raises it one step, a pool environment raises it to at least C4, and chemical, wastewater or fertilizer exposure sets it to C5.
System
| Situation | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Chemical, wastewater, fertilizer or pool exposure | PG-C | Thick chemical-resistant film, air-dry cure |
| Complete outdoor unit | PG-C (alternative PG-S1 with ambient cure) | Units cannot be baked |
| C5, under 500 m, or 15+ year target life | PG-S1 | Thin film with the strongest salt-spray data |
| C4 | PG-S1 (alternative PG-W) | Protection without measurable heat-transfer loss |
| C3 | PG-W (alternative PG-S1) | Cost-effective coil-line film for mild sites |
PG-S2 appears only as an alternative, and only for aluminium or stainless parts that can be baked at C3–C4. It is never offered for coils that contain copper.
Application route
Complete units are coated as full units. Coils that can be baked are dip-coated; coils that cannot be baked are sprayed.
FAQ
Is the result a final specification?
No. It is a starting point based on the most common failure causes. The final specification also considers fin density, bake limits and the project's own requirements.
Why is PG-S2 never suggested for copper coils?
PG-S2 is not specified for copper substrates, so it is only offered for aluminium and stainless parts that can be baked.
