Laboratory values from the coating data sheet.

Suitable for

  • Suitable: Aluminium radiators and plate-fin heat exchangers
  • Suitable: Stainless steel exchangers that can enter an oven
  • Suitable: Production lines with a controlled bake at part temperature
  • Suitable: Parts where a clear film must not change the appearance

Not suitable for

  • Not suitable: Copper-tube, aluminium-fin coils — use PG-S1 until copper is confirmed
  • Not suitable: Complete outdoor units or anything that cannot be baked
  • Not suitable: Chemical, wastewater or ammonia exposure — use PG-C
  • Not suitable: Field repair on installed equipment

Where PG-S2 fits

PG-S2 is a bake-cured clearcoat. The oven cure produces a hard, even film with good resistance to common organic solvents, and because the film is clear it leaves the look of the metal unchanged.

It is the natural choice for aluminium radiators and exchangers that already pass through an oven on the production line. For parts that cannot be baked, or for copper-tube coils, PG-S1 covers the same thin-film role with an ambient-cure option.

Application

PG-S2 is applied by spray, dip or flood coating. The cure schedule — 160 °C for 60 minutes or 180 °C for 30 minutes at part temperature — is logged for every batch, because an incomplete cure is the most common cause of early coating failure.

Why is PG-S2 not recommended for copper coils?

Its data sheet lists aluminium and stainless steel only. Until copper is confirmed by the supplier, Cu-Al coils are coated with PG-S1.

What temperature does the part itself need to reach?

The cure schedule refers to part temperature, not oven air temperature. Heavy parts need longer in the oven to reach 160 °C or 180 °C throughout.

Where are the salt-spray results?

PG-S2 is specified here by film thickness, cure and substrate. Where a project needs published salt spray and heat-transfer results, we recommend PG-S1, which has both in the test data library.
