How to Touch Up Damaged Coil Coating in the Field
Key facts
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1. Straighten | Comb bent fins back into line first |
| 2. Clean | Fresh water and a neutral cleaner; remove salt and corrosion product |
| 3. Dry | The surface must be completely dry |
| 4. Mask | Protect electrical parts, labels and valves |
| 5. Apply | Brush or light spray over the damage and a small margin |
| 6. Cure | PG-C is touch-dry in 4 h and fully cured after 72 h |
When to touch up
Damage found on arrival, after installation, or after brazing work should be touched up before the unit enters service. Bare metal at a scratch corrodes, and on Cu-Al coils corrosion at a damaged collar spreads under the surrounding film.
Conditions
Work in dry weather, out of direct rain and heavy dew. Follow the temperature and humidity limits in the coating’s application guide.
Cure before running
The film must cure before the unit runs and the coil gets wet. With PG-C, allow 4 h to touch-dry and 72 h for full cure at ambient temperature.
What this means for your project
Order a field repair kit with the equipment, and record touch-ups with photos so warranty questions can be answered later.
