Does Third-Party Coating Void the OEM Warranty?
Key facts
| OEM position | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Accepts third-party coating | Unit warranty unchanged; coating warranty from the applicator |
| Excludes coated parts | Coil covered by the coating warranty, rest of unit by the OEM |
| Requires factory option | Ask for the OEM coating option or accept the exclusion |
| No written position | Get one before the order |
Why OEMs are cautious
A manufacturer’s warranty assumes the unit is as it left the factory. Coating a complete unit means opening panels and masking components; removing a coil means opening the refrigerant circuit. OEMs want to know what was done and that it was checked.
What helps an OEM say yes
- The coating system and its heat-transfer test result
- The film thickness range and how it is measured
- The masking checklist and function-check record for complete units
- The batch QC report for the delivered units
Where our responsibility sits
The coating warranty covers the coating we apply. It does not replace the manufacturer’s warranty on the unit, its compressor or its controls.
What this means for your project
Send the OEM a short technical note before ordering and keep their answer with the project records. We can prepare the note with the data above.
