Coating in China Before Shipment vs a Local Applicator
Before shipment in China vs local applicator
| Before shipment in China | Local applicator | |
|---|---|---|
| Timing | Coated between the factory and the loading port, before the voyage. | Coated after arrival, before or after installation. |
| Handling | One move from factory to coating line to port. | Extra transport to and from the applicator, or work on site. |
| Method | Dip or spray on a partner line, with oven cure where the part allows. | Depends on the applicator; site work is spray with air-dry cure. |
| Documents | Batch QC report and film thickness record shipped with the goods. | Depends on the applicator's own QC. |
| Transit risk | Coated coils must be packed to protect the film on the voyage. | No coating at risk in transit. |
| Local support | Touch-up and claims handled remotely or with a local partner. | The applicator is nearby for inspection, repair and warranty visits. |
Choose before shipment in china if…
- The equipment is bought from a Chinese factory and not yet loaded
- The site programme has no slack for a second coating step
- You want the coating documented before the goods leave
Choose local applicator if…
- The equipment is already on site or installed
- The project requires an approved local contractor
- You need a repair or recoat, not a new coil
Cost and lead time
Coating before shipment adds days to the factory-to-port schedule but removes transport, handling and waiting at the destination. A local applicator adds time after arrival, which falls on the site programme. Which is cheaper depends on local labour and transport rates and how far the applicator is from site; compare both with the same film thickness and QC requirements.
